Ribbon Pull Board for Kids

Ribbon pulling is simple yet motivating fine motor practice for kids! We used pegboard to create our ribbon wall play invitation.

Inspired by The Imagination Tree's Homemade Ribbon Pulling Toy and the Ribbon Pulling Quiet Book Page from And Next Comes L I knew that a ribbon pulling activity would keep my toddler's interest while requiring him to practice his pincer grasp. Using a pegboard was the fastest and easiest way to create this exploration.

I threaded ribbons of different patterns, textures, sizes, and lengths though the pegboard before standing it up on our easel. Most of the thicker ribbon was simply knotted to secure. For the thinner ribbons I tied pony beads from Craft Project Ideas to the bottom to prevent the material from being pulled complete through the holes.

Our preschooler loved this activity, too! She would find the two matching sides of one piece of ribbon to pull back and forth creating and identifying the longer and shorter lengths as she experimented with cause and effect!
