Our preschooler created a colorful yarn wrapped turkey from recycled material! This gobbler is the perfect fine motor craft for Thanksgiving.
For this recycled craft, we used the cardboard packing that comes between a new set of pots and pans. We had to remove a few of pieces but you could cut the turkey shape from a regular piece of cardboard.
We keep everything unique that could be thrown away for potential crafts. We've made flowers out of these cardboard pieces too!
Our preschooler E used Craft Project Ideas' wiggly eyes and markers to make her turkey. She remembered that it needed a wattle from our geobard turkey creation!
She raided our yarn and ribbon stash to choose materials to decorate the turkey's feathers. I tied the yarn then she wrapped it around. Yarn wrapped crafts and fabulous for fine motor skills!
If you only had two or three colors of yarn you could create a pattern on the tail feathers. E decided to wanted a rainbow turkey of course! We used ribbon, too. It seemed to be easier for E to manage as it came off of the spool!
This craft occupied quite a bit of our afternoon so it is one to pull out when you want quiet dedication and not a quick idea. You might even want to set it up as a station that your child can revisit to finish over several days.
E kept at it but occasionally asked me to hold the turkey body or do a bit of wrapping when her hands were tired.
Even finishing each color by tucking in the loose end of the yarn is a great fine motor exercise! She is so proud of her cheery and colorful completed turkey craft!
