We're back with another original recipe for the 12 Months of Sensory Dough series. We've also gathered all of our homemade sensory play recipes for your convenience!
For our green tea play dough we brewed eight bags of green tea in two cups of water. Then we combined the two cups of tea with two cups of water, one cup of salt, two tablespoons of oil, two tablespoons of cream of tartar in a saucepan. We let the mixture cook over medium high heat while stirring constantly. Once a dough was formed we dumped it onto a floured surface to cool. Basically we used our traditional play dough recipe but replaced the water with green tea.
Next came the fun for our preschooler E. She ripped open the tea bags to dump the wet tea leaves out onto the cooled play dough. Then she kneaded the dough to mix the tea throughout. The tea leaves really scented the dough.
We spent the afternoon pretending to host a tea party. E served herself and me tea by pressing it into our mugs and then used additional play dough to make us biscuits as well.
Our toddler D was content to practice his fine motor skills by simply poking the green tea dough over and over again. He didn't taste any but if he did I knew the recipe was completely harmless. There aren't even any artificial dyes to worry about in this one!
What a delicious smelling tea for calming and comforting sensory play on a long winter day. The recipe even made enough to share plenty with our neighbors!
