We created a fine motor activity that both our kids loved with a few inexpensive materials! In addition to pre-writing, it was also a great way to review colors and sizes.

I stood colored straws up in play dough and challenged the kids to slide larger straws down over the matching colors.
Once all of the colors were covered I asked them to carefully take the larger straws back off so we could play again.
We were excited to see that sometimes the straws stayed inside and fell out later! There was so much fun and learning with such a simple set up.
