Our son is learning sight words and since he positively loves animals, I made him this emergent reader to combine the two! You can print your own copy of this easy reader book for free.

Each of the pages in this emergent reader contains several intentional parts to help your child learn to read independently. At the top of the page is a clear picture (featuring adorable clip art by Whimsy Clips) to cue the animal that is listed on the page. The sentences are made up of sight words that remain in a predictable pattern throughout the book.
Our preschooler put his name on the front cover. Then on each page he pointed to each word as he read. This early reading behavior reinforces the concept of word.
We highlighted the sight word he is working on this week. He loves to color the pictures, too!
On this page, I asked him after he read how he knew that the word said alligator and not crocodile. He pointed out that word alligator begins with the letter a. Way to go, little reader!
