We love all of Karma Wilson's books but Bear Snores On is one of the very first we read together. This hibernating bear craft allows kids to retell the story with a fun fine motor prop that they'll love! You could use this for a preschool bear theme to go along with the story.

Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson is a delightful story about animals who come in from the winter cold to keep each other company in Bear's den. Bear is sleeping so he misses all the fun but what happens when he wakes up to find everyone in his home?
Review the opposites awake and asleep with kids by creating this bear craft that switches back and forth with a spin! You will need two paper plates, brown paint, a brad, black and white paper, and glue.
Review the opposites awake and asleep with kids by creating this bear craft that switches back and forth with a spin! You will need two paper plates, brown paint, a brad, black and white paper, and glue.
Invite children to paint two paper plates brown then allow them time to try. One will be the face of the bear while the other will make the ears and the awake and sleeping eyes.
Cut the center circle out of one of the plates. Use the leftover scraps from the border to create the bear's ears. We stapled ours on for durability but glue works as well.
Carefully fold the other paper place to cut out two eye holes. Using a paper brad, secure the two painted plates together with the larger one with the holes in the front.
You'll be able to twist the plate in the back around to change the bear from awake to sleeping.
Cut out a black paper nose to glue over the brad. Add a mouth. Finally draw sleeping eyes on the bear inside the eye holes then turn the bottom plate and add awake eyes on the opposite side.
You might be able to use googly eyes but we drew ours on white paper and glued them on.
He also thought it was funny to make himself and the bear half awake with only one eye open. That's pretty much how I look before my coffee in the morning!

Our preschooler loved retelling Bear Snores On using his bear as a prop. He would snore every time I read "But the bear snores on."
