Recycled Egg Carton Acorn Ornaments

We love to use recycled materials in our crafts.  For fall we wanted a seasonal ornament that we could hang up so we painted acorns from recycled egg cartons.

I cut and fit two pieces of the egg carton together to make sure they looked like acorns.  I folded the nut part so it would fit inside the cap. We took the acorn pieces apart to paint. Our preschooler E chose two colors of paint for each acorn.

Once the pieces were dry I poked a hole in the top of the acorn caps. We threaded ribbon through the hole and secured it with glue.

We gently tucked the nuts back into the caps. If they are a bit tricky to fit cut slits in the nut part of the acorns so they fold to become a bit more narrow and taper when folded.

Fit the caps back on to the acorn bottoms and hang. They are festive and ready for fall! These would be an adorable classroom craft for kids. They go along with our acorn handprint craft, too!
