Honey Transfer: Bee Fine Motor Activity

Our preschooler has been learning about bees. Transferring honey is the perfect way to bring fine motor practice to our honey bee unit! We were as busy as bees with this one!

Our preschooler asked to learn more about honeybees. Studying a topic that most children are afraid of is a great way to build confidence. This would be great as a spring or summer theme for preschool. 

When I saw this honeycomb silicone pot holder I had an idea for a fine motor invitation to go along with our unit. This Pop-It toy would work as an alternative. If you don't want to purchase any supplies, you can use a plastic egg carton to catch the liquid. 

I colored water with yellow food coloring to create "honey" for the kids to transfer from the cup to the honeycomb. Our toddler waited (as patiently as a 1 1/2 year old can) for his turn. 

I thought he would immediately tip the pot holder but he had been watching his sister carefully. He immediately mirrored the transfer activity!
