Fairy Land: Building with Recycled Materials on the Light Table

Our preschooler constructed a fairy land on the light table using recycled materials! The magical and girly pretend play sparked her imagination and mine.

The theme for this month's Light and Reflection Series is Building & Constructing. Our daughter wanted to create a whimsical land for her fairies to visit on the light table!

Most of the construction consisted of clear plastic recyclable containers. Before I toss any clear packaging into the recycle bin I consider if we could use it on the light table. We've acquired quite the collection of building materials that didn't cost us a penny. It was the perfect opportunity to put them to good use!

In addition to the recycled containers I also made the following materials available for E to build and accessorize her fairy garden:

Acrylic Links from The Dollar Tree
Acrylic Flower Gems from The Dollar Tree
Acrylic Butterfly Clips from The Dollar Tree
Cellophane Sheets (one of our favorite light table materials)
Disney Fairy Figurines
3D Gem Stickers from Discount School Supply

Once the fairy land was perfect we sang a magical song and the fairies appeared to play with us!

E has really been inspired to build since our Korxx blocks have supported her confidence in her construction. This invitation to first create and then pretend transformed her into a new level of imagination. I love the photos of her face lit up with joy as we played!
