Coffee Grounds Farm Sensory Bin

Dried coffee grounds make an irresistible sensory material! Here is how we saved ours to use in sensory play when learning about farms.

If you are a regular reader here our daughter E looks young because this is a sensory bin we did two years ago for our farm preschool unit! I didn't post about it at the time because she didn't dive right in and get her hands dirty. I've learned over the years that sensory play should be experienced at the child's comfort level. For her, playing with her tractor and farm animals in the coffee scented "dirt" was just right.

Mr. SPS drinks espresso so we saved the used grounds for a few weeks. We would let the coffee dry into a solid form. Once mostly dried I would break the coffee up with a fork as I added it to a container. Each day I mixed the new coffee grounds in and left the lid slightly open to make sure there was no moisture left.
