I vividly remember reciting the Five Little Pumpkins poem with my brother when we were kids. Now I am thrilled that my own children enjoy it just as much so we created a fine motor retelling activity to go along with this classic Halloween finger play!

If you are unfamiliar with the Five Little Pumpkins poem there are several book versions that you can read to kids.
To create the pumpkins' gate we hot glued craft sticks together. When working with kids, we always use a low temp glue gun for safety. For the pumpkin puppets we hot glued foam pumpkins to wooden clothespins.
As we recited the poem, our preschooler added each pumpkin to the fence. Pinching the clothespins to attach the pumpkins to the fence was a great fine motor strengthening exercise.

I love this song! When I taught kindergarten I made a coloring page to teach the number words... this idea is easy to make, easy for kids to interact, and just too cute!
