We love light table play! The soothing, sensory platform for learning activities is at the center of all the educational invitations we create for our preschooler and toddler. We have recently fallen in love with the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS so we are thrilled to share why we recommend it for your child's wishlist for the upcoming holiday season.
ALEX TOYS provided us with the Prism Light Center, Prism Bases, and Prism Bricks for writing this review but, as always, all words and enthusiasm are 100% our own!
I've been amazed by light tables since I first discovered them. When we created our DIY version a year ago, our love for this type of play only grew with all the light table activities we created. I've written about the benefits of light table play from my role as both an early childhood teacher and a mom. Yet I wish we would have bought the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS from the very beginning for several reasons.
The Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS can be set up on the floor or an already existing table in your home or classroom. Use it as a light box or add the wooden legs provided to set it up as a 21 inch high table. The box itself comes already durably assembled and ready to use. An extra bulb is provided. We have played with the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS both as a light box on the floor (which then conveniently fits under our coffee table for easy storage) and as a table. I love the versatility of both of these options so we often switch back and forth (which is easy to do with the provided hex key).
With the easy flip of a switch the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS converts to a regular play table. We leave the Prism Bases by ALEX TOYS on top as our children love to play with the Prism Bricks by ALEX TOYS even without the light source. If you choose to set the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS up as a table rather than a light box it will be a multi-purpose play surface that doesn't take up too much space in your home. It is the perfect size for more than one child but not too large in our small, already very full home.
The biggest advantage of the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS for us is the durability. We have an enthusiastic and rambunctious toddler and the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS has stood up to all he has given it. For the record, the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS has even held the weight of my 25 pound toddler climbing on top of it with his shoes on for a minute while my back is turned (though neither ALEX TOYS nor Still Playing School recommends allowing your children to climb on the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS those few seconds of durability really impressed me)! Knowing that the Prism Light Center by ALEX TOYS can withstand the wear and tear of typical toddler play allows me to comfortably offer it as a play invitation for my youngest child much more and earlier than I would have otherwise. He really loves the cars he can create with the Prism Bricks by ALEX TOYS and drive over the bumpy surface of the Prism Bases by ALEX TOYS.
Finally, there is no way my DIY light table would have provided the same even light distribution as the Prism Bricks by ALEX TOYS. The beautiful surface cleans up easily with a wet wipe so we never hesitate to experiment with even messy sensory play on the Prism Bricks by ALEX TOYS. Here are several educational activities we've done on the Prism Bricks by ALEX TOYS in the short time that we've had it so far (and we have so many more posts and ideas yet to come):

I've been wanting to get a light table for so long and this one looks great. I think I know what will be under the Christmas tree this year! Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteLucky kiddos (and parents)! I enjoy playing with the light table just as much as they do! It would look so cute already set up and glowing under the tree!
DeleteWOW! This looks amazing. Do you know if it is offered in Canada? I have been looking for something like this for my little guys - and I love that you added in it could hold the weight of a toddler (regardless of how careful I am, it will absolutely be happening at some point!). Very interested. Great review - I had never heard of this company before - eager to check it out!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so fun! I love that you can out it on the floor or another surface!! I have a smaller place so it would be nice to not have to put it as its own table! My son would love this!
ReplyDeleteI have seen so many different articles about light tables. They look so very neat but I'm not into the idea of making one of my own and a lot are pricey. I really like this one though as it can be used as an ordinary play table too.
ReplyDeleteHoly Hanna! This is an absolutely amazing site! I wish I had found this site sooner, but its better now than never. I have already saved this as a favorite for the next time I need to purchase sensory items for my 7 year old ASD,ADHD,SPD son. Thank you so very much for all that you do. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis might be my favorite comment that I've ever gotten! Thank YOU!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! My boys would love this!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of a light table until I read your review. I think this would be a lot of fun for little ones. I am impressed that it is so sturdy--something that I think is very important. Even though your child should not climb on the table, they will inevitably do just that and it is important for a product to be sturdy and safe.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! Never seen anything like it before. Fabulous!
