These baked cotton ball snowman crafts are perfect for Winter creative play! We loved making them together and they look so cute in a window, as a fridge magnet, or in small world play!
We are excited for this week's Playful Preschool theme of snowmen! You can always find our posts on Wednesdays by searching #playfulpreschool via social media! We are actually hosting a snowman themed play date with friends today so it was perfect timing.
We have never baked our own cotton balls but we fell in love with them when a neighbor brought some over last fall. We used those for apple picking pretend play! You can bake cotton balls by mixing equal parts water and flour into a paste. We used slightly more water and didn't color ours since we were making snowmen. Our preschooler E enjoyed the process of making the snowmen but didn't like getting her fingers messy. We baked some cotton balls individually and also made vertical and horizontal snowmen by sticking three cotton balls together before baking.
After baking at 300 degrees for about 40 minutes the cotton balls were hardened and ready to cool. We stacked the "snow" balls with glue. They were ready for details!
E made snowgirls because she loves the girly wiggly eyes from Craft Project Ideas! We colored toothpick carrot noses. Just gently poke the cotton ball's shell before with the sharp end of a toothpick to easily slip in the arms and noses.
We drew on other details too like this snowgirl's lipstick mouth! She would be adorable as a magnet on the refrigerator wouldn't she?
I love that we tried three versions of this 3D craft! They each have so much personality. Imagine a whole family or classroom of these snow guys and gals. We're looking forward to crafting more today at our snowman play date!
