Fall is in the air! Can you smell the apple pies baking? That was the inspiration for our latest autumn themed busy bag for kids! We made a toy felt apple pie kit.

What can be more exciting than a brand new busy bag to explore? Our kit is kept in a zippered pencil case. It contains real cinnamon, felt apple pie making pieces that I created myself, small pie pans, and a mini rolling pin, pastry cutter, and play knife.
Both our toddler and our preschooler loved this activity! The dug right into the bag to see what was inside. "What do you think we're making today? That's right! Let's bake an apple pie!"
First we need to roll out the crust! Even practicing with a rolling pin on felt dough is great fine motor practice!
We need to cut the dough to fit our pan. "What shape is the crust?"
Slice the apples! Don't forget to peel off the skin and take out the seeds!
Sprinkle on the cinnamon! If you are concerned with using real spices around your children you can use an empty shaker. We liked to smell the cinnamon as we worked.
I showed our daughter how to make a criss cross lattice pie crust. She got a bit frustrated with the weaving and decided to get creative instead! That's an interesting apple pie!
