The train obsession still chugs along very strong in our home! We created a train themed snack to go along with one of our kids' favorite modes of transportation!

Christmas might be over but we're still cramming holiday memories in to this week before the new year! Leading up to the holiday, we were busy crafting paper gingerbread men and playing gingerbread themed gross motor games! But yesterday we got out the gingerbread house kit that our neighbor shared with us. It doesn't matter that it was after Christmas. I'll never forget three year old D asking his six year old sister for more "goo" as she spread the icing and he added the candy to their collaborative gingerbread house!
Of course, we had to add a train to our edible creations! We used mini Nilla Wafers, Triscuits, and Club Crackers held together with a bit of icing. We fit in a bit of preschool math as we discussed the shapes (circle, square, and rectangle) used to make our train. The kids loved counting, sorting, and loading gumdrops and gummy bears into the cargo cars! This activity goes well with any train book like The Little Engine that Could or this month's Book Club Play Dates pick Steam Train, Dream Train!
