Plural Nouns LEGO Activity for Kids

I love to find hands on ways to work on the concepts and skills our daughter is currently learning! Research shows that movement including the fine motor work required to fit together these LEGO Duplo bricks solidifies learning in children's brains. It's also way more fun than worksheets!

Since our kids were small, we've all loved LEGO DUPLO! We have the Jake and the Neverland Pirates sets and the animal sets, too! When I search for activities for early elementary academics for the primary grades I find tons and tons of worksheets. But I want us to be playing while we learn (which is why we named our website Still Playing School) so I love to look at our open ended toys to figure out ways in which we can use them for more structured teaching.

Our daughter has enjoying Mad Libs lately so we've been discussing types of words. The puzzles often as for plural nouns so we've been learning how some nouns just get an -s ending added to the end while others get an -es (if they end with an s, x, ch, etc.)

A fun way to practice this without permanently marking your DUPLOS is to use a dry erase marker! They wipe clean off the bricks (use a wet wipe if you still have a smudge left behind) so the learning possibilities are literally endless!

I put the nouns on the longer DUPLO bricks and the endings on smaller ones. Our daughter was invited to match the correct ending based on the noun to make all the words plural.

The best part was her little brother who always wants to do the same activities as her as we homeschool was content to sit next to us building with DUPLO while we worked on parts of speech!
