Read Across America Day is approaching. Yet no matter what time of year it is most kids love Dr. Seuss books. We chose to turn one of our favorites into a hands on literacy activity for preschool or kindergarten!
This week's Virtual Book Club for Kids selection is any Dr. Seuss book. We chose Green Eggs and Ham because we enjoy the rhyming, the vehement refusal of the meal, and of course the ending! I created a stamping sheet with eggs all over it. Our eggs contain uppercase letters but you could customize this for any skill your child is practicing.
All kids love to use dot stamp markers! We even wrote about the benefits of these materials for preschoolers. If you're a teacher this is a fast and hands on way to assess letter recognition. Just include a note explaining that children stamped the letters they knew so we will continue working on the others in class and at home. I copy the two alphabet sheets back to back to save paper.
If you don't have the dot stamp markers, children can color the eggs green. You could also make this a reusable center or quiet time activity by laminating the sheets or putting them in wipe off envelopes and using dry erase markers.
I did include a blank egg template sheet for you to use as you wish. You can write in the numbers, sight words, or shapes each little one is mastering to tailor the learning specifically to the child.
